Hima B.
Hima B. is the director & producer of HIV Sisters, which she launched in 2008. During an artist residency with New Jersey Women & AIDS Network (NJWAN) she collaborated with ten women to launch a living quilt that reflects how women & girls are impacted by this disease. Inspired by the AIDS Memorial Quilt that commemorates individuals who have died to this disease, Hima wants to use digital multi-media elements to create an online tapestry where women and girls bear witness to how they live in times of the AIDS epidemic. Hima B. is interested in not only telling other women & girls' stories, but also training them so that they can produce their own narratives. She believes everyone has a story. By using available technology such as cell phones, consumer cameras, and even pen/paper, we can show important events in our lives to others and contribute to a larger dialogue.![]()
Hima is available to train organizations, their staff & members so they can create their own videos using digital multimedia tools. Hima is currently in production on a documentary entitled License To Pimp. She asks the question, "What would you do if your workplace became a brothel?" Would you accept it, fight it, or quit? The film chronicles three strippers and the choices they make when their workplaces violate their labor rights & engage in illegal practices, which push many workers to prostitute in order to pay management hefty fees to work.
